Wayne Stands

With rising healthcare costs and the expiration of enhanced premium tax credits and subsidies, tens of thousands are expected to lose their health insurance. From the creation of Medicaid and Medicare in 1965 to the emergence of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) in 2010, Democrats have historically cared more and had more influence on healthcare than Republicans. Even now there is bipartisan belief that Democrats are best for healthcare. As a nurse of 40 years, I will continue to care more.

Trump CHAOS

The reality is Trump doesn’t care about health care unless he can capitalize on it financially or stoke his ego. His initial arrogant response to COVID killed hundreds of thousands. Would love to give him credit for the fast-tracked COVID vaccine that saved lives but his own appointed Secretary of Health, Robert Kennedy Jr., trashed it.

Would also like to give Trump credit for decreasing prescription drug costs but he marginalized and demeaned Biden’s previous pharmaceutical success. Trump seems more proud of hearing people say TRUMP RX, another Trump scam, while rattled when he hears people say OBAMACARE. Trump has had ten years to come up with a substantial health care plan but has made only “bigly health insurance promises.”

The fact is Trump’s Big Barfable Bill will drastically cut Medicaid, make health insurance unaffordable, and acutely increase the number of uninsured people, especially the poor, elderly, disabled, and underserved. Over 300 rural hospitals will be at risk for closure from a $50.4 billion Medicaid reduction. Like everything else, Trump is promising future investments that he won’t worry about when he is gone.

As far as actual care for health, Trump abdicated his interest and responsibility to Robert Kennedy Jr., an anti-vax conspiracy theorist who is the author and owner of the first measle outbreak in decades. Measles had actually been eradicated in the United States in 2000. Now children are suffering and dying needlessly. Eating roadkill but drinking only raw milk, doing heroin to improve study habits, and claiming Tylenol during pregnancy is the major cause of Autism are a few of his disqualifying qualifications.

Of Trump’s commitment to health Kennedy revealed, “I don’t know how he’s alive…He has unhinged eating habits and eats really bad food, which is McDonald’s, candy and Diet Coke…If you travel with him, you get this idea he is pumping himself full of poison and you don’t know how he’s walking around.”
